Funk Dub
With 20 + years’ experience, countless gigs and a whole lot of beer, Funkdub was one of the most recognized names in house music on the East Coast of Canada, but as the saying goes “go west young man” and he listed to the call.
Funkdub (aka James Dobbin) made his name in the late 90’s through a number of residencies with Halifax’s most prolific production companies including Slip Disc, Massive Productions and his own company Face the Music. Having played every dance music venue in Halifax and the Maritimes he was able to develop his skills and open for some of the biggest headliners in the world including Dj Dan, Bad Boy Bill, Richard Vission, John Aquaviva, and Derrick Carter.
In the mid 2000’s, along with his partner Jody Crowe they ran a 6 year residency at Habitat in Calgary hosting the likes of Fred Everything, Dj Heather, Halo, Horse Meat Disco, Lady Miss Kier (Dee-Lite) and whole load of local legends.
Inspired by the London Disco sounds of Horse Meat Disco and legends like David Bowie and Talking Heads his sound has evolved but not changed. Still mixing banging Chicago house and low end vocal goodness he may pull out a classic from the days of Electopolis or drop one of his very own remixes.
Now relocated back to the East James is still digging, still mixing and still loving music, when James plays he plays for himself. It just so happens he likes the same music you do.
