Tommy Knuckles, a true pioneer and beloved Halifax underground house music staple. With 25 years behind the decks, Tommy has made an indelible mark on the east coast’s electronic music landscape, leaving an enduring legacy for Atlantic Canada’s festival enthusiasts and house music lovers.
Tommy’s journey into the world of HOUSE music began on a fateful night in ’96 when he experienced his first underground party. From that moment, he fell in love with rave culture, embarking on a remarkable journey that led him and friends to create Bubble Productions in Wolfville, NS, promoting numerous all night parties with House and DnB vinyl DJs. In 1999, after volunteering at Shambhala Music Festival, he moved to Halifax and managed “The Underground,” a legendary rave venue hosting 2500 person(+16) 2 room Rave parties every weekend until its doors were closed by the city.
Throughout the years, Tommy Knuckles has kept the underground spirit alive in Halifax, working with Kyle Kurts and The Deep Red Collective in the early 2000’s after hours scene and SubRosa After hours. Transitioning into the club scene as KNUCKLES Productions, he hosted the renowned “Friday Night Showcase” at Reflections Cabaret from 2003 to 2005.
Tommy’s musical roots as a jazz drummer have inspired his DJ style, incorporating elements that add a unique and soulful touch to his sets. Known for dropping disco, old school vocal house, lively horns, and sassy bass line tech house, he effortlessly showcases his undeniable passion and talent as one of the best house DJs on the east coast. His infectious energy and vibrant presence in the DJ booth ensure an unforgettable party experience for all. From intimate club shows to grand festival stages, he has earned a well-deserved reputation as a performer who keeps the happy house music vibe alive, show after show. He is currently hosting a monthly Friday night show at the Toothy Moose in Halifax.
Tommy’s significant contributions to the thriving electronic music community extend beyond the DJ booth. As the Creative and Programming Director of Synergy Stage for 10 year, at the CBC Radio 3 – 2010 Best Music Festival in Canada winner – Evolve Music and Awareness Festival in Antigonish, he has played a pivotal role in fostering a genuine and inclusive platform for electronic music on the east coast for decades. With his genuine humility and soulful spirit, Tommy Knuckles passion for music and uplifting energy has him currently volunteering as the Programming Director for Electric Pines Music Festival in Shubenacadie Sep 1-4, 2023.
